Taiwanese radio DJ Suan Chen (陳思安), also known as San San recently opened up about the death of her father on the social media platform Threads, stating that her father had choked to death on bak zhang.
Chen, 31, said that while the cause of death was said to be accidental, her father actually choked while eating a rice dumpling.
“The elders in the family might have felt [the way he died] was very embarrassing, so they told us to say it was a heart attack,” she wrote on her Threads page. “It’s very soft but also very sticky, so old folks with weak teeth should be especially careful. Let my father’s death serve as a warning to everyone!” she wrote.
Suan, on the other hand, never considered the incident shameful, but a “very serious issue”.
