Godzilla and Kong retook their claim to the China box office throne, as the latest installment in the monster movie franchise ‘Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire’ reclaimed the top spot at the China box office, according to Variety.
Data consultancy firm Artisan Gateway reported that “Godzilla x Kong” recorded earnings of $7.3 million (RMB51.5 million) between Friday and Sunday, a 32% week-on-week drop, per the report, adding that “The Boy and the Heron” declined by 43% between its second and third weekends and recorded a $6.3 million score from Friday to Sunday.
However during their fourth weekend the film took back the top spot, overtaking “The Boy and the Heron” in the process and following a 24 day release the monster movie epic has earned a cumulative $121 million (RMB862 million) in China marking the highest figure in China of any foreign title in 2024 thus far.
