9 K-Dramas to Watch Starring Hallyu Sweetheart Kim Yoo Jung

At just 23 years old, Kim Yoo Jung can already boast of exactly 100 TV and film acting credits to date (yep, we did the math). Having started out as a child actress who played the younger versions of leading ladies, she’s since blossomed into a K-drama star in her own right. From Princess Hours to Slot Gacor Gampang Menang Backstreet Rookie, and even to 20th Century Girl, the newest coming-of-age movie to trend on Netflix, Yoo Jung shows no signs of stopping with her escalating career.

1. Princess Hours (2006)

Set in an alternate universe where South Korea is still under a monarchy, high school student Shin Chae-kyeong (Yoon Eun Hye) is forced to marry crown prince Lee Shin (Ju Ji Hoon). She learns to adjust to her new royal status, and eventually, falls in love with her bethroted husband. In flashback scenes, a 7-year-old Yoo Jung portrays the younger Chae-kyeong.

2. Iljimae (2008)

After unjustly losing his family, Yong-i (Lee Joon Gi) becomes dedicated to a life of robbing corrupt government officials in order to give to the poor. On one occassion, he encounters Byeon Eun-chae (Han Hyo Joo), the daughter of an affluent family who actually has a genuine heart for the poor. The two seem to be fated both for and against each other, as tensions rise within their village. Yoo Jung joins the cast as the pre-adolescent Eun-chae.

3. Dong Yi (2010)

Once just a lowly water maid, Dong Yi (Han Hyo Joo) rises up the ranks as King Sukjong’s (Ji Jin Hee) concubine, and later on, becomes the queen of Joseon. She devotes her adult life to absolving the crimes her family was wrongully accused for when she was a child (She was played by Yoo Jung in those scenes).

4. Moon Embracing the Sun (2012)

A 13-year-old Heo Yeon-woo (Yoo Jung) falls in love with the 15-year-0ld crown prince Lee Hwon (Yeo Jin Goo). The Royal Queen Dowager (Kim Young Ae) disapproves of their romance, and puts a hit on Yeon-woo, leading her to lose her memory. Years later, Yeon-woo (Han Ga In), who now goes by Wol, encounters Lee Hwon (Kim Soo Hyun) again, and the latter seems to recognize his first love.

5. Angry Mom (2015)

Once the resident bad gal of her high school, Jo Kang-ja (Kim Hee Sun) learns that her own daughter, Oh Ah-ran (Yoo Jung), is getting bullied. To turn the tables even more, she goes undercover as a student and plots against those tormenting her child.

6. Love in the Moonlight (2016)

7. Clean with Passion for Now (2018)

Jang Seon-kyul (Yoon Kyun Sang) has a massive fear of dirt, and thus, runs a cleaning company. For some extre help, he hires Gil Oh-sol (Yoo Jung), a carefree girl who doesn’t mind getting her hands dirty. Along the way, Oh-sol helps her boss ease into the not-so-neat parts of everyday life.

8. Backstreet Rookie (2020)

A couple of years after their first meeting, Dae-hyun (Ji Chang Wook) hires a spunky Jung Saet-byul (Yoo Jung) to work part-time at his convenience store. The two get into all sorts of mischief, with Saet-byul determined to prove to her high school crush that she’s all grown up.
