As the Premier League season is closing in, the title race is getting tighter with just a few games remaining. All the top four teams are leaving no stone unturned, fighting with tooth and nail for England’s biggest laurels in football.
While defending champions Manchester City took three points with a 3-1 win over Crystal Palace, Jürgen Klopp’s men fought their back way to the top.
The Reds subdued the rivals Chelsea 2-0 on Sunday and moved to the number one spot two points above the City. Goals from Sadio Mané and Mohamed Salah in the early second half earned the victory in a thrilling clash at the Anfield.
After a series of failed attempts in the first half, Mane opened the scoring in the 51st minute with a powerful header assisted by Jordan Henderson. The Reds were assured of a home win when Salah sent a stunning long-range goal in a couple of minutes. The goal was his first from outside the box in the Premier League since scoring against Manchester City in January 2018.
The win was Liverpool’s only third time over Chelsea in their past 17 meetings in all competitions (W3 D8 L6. It was also their first at Anfield since a 4-1 win in the Premier League in May 2012.
Liverpool would be looking for wins in the remaining four matches this season. They play bottom half Cardiff, Huddersfield, Newcastle and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
